Michel’Angelo Piccinini is an Italian qualified lawyer non resident senior partner of Piccinini & Partners. With a wide experience of both the shipping and the insurance international markets, he regularly advises major Lloyd’s underwriters, shipowners and brokers on both marine and non marine insurance disputes.
Michel'Angelo moved to London in 1994 practicing insurance and shipping law in a P&I Club, in a City Law Firm and in a Shipping Line. In 1997 he joined Piccinini & Associati becoming partner in 2000 and managing partner in 2001. From 2009 he is P&P senior and non resident partner, and from 2014 is in charge also for P&P Swiss desk.
Thomas’ focus is on ship financing, ship building contracts, yachts and yachting, private aviation, sale and purchase and all ancillary matters including the structuring of his clients envisaged transactions and corporate law.
Thomas regularly advises shipping companies, ship management companies, ship yards, banks, private equity, leasing companies and high net worth individuals as well as charterers and brokers.
He received his degree and post-graduate training in Kiel, Schleswig, Hamburg and London. Before the establishment of Schwenke & Partner in 2000, Thomas was employed by and later a partner of leading maritime law firms in the City of London and in Hamburg and was subsequently a partner in a further leading international law firm.
Regardless of his other commitments he accepted an associated partnership with Piccinini & Associati in 2010 strengthening the cooperation between him and Michel’Angelo Piccinini and in 2015 entered Piccinini & Partners partnership.
Andrea Ogno joined Piccinini & Associati in November 2007 commencing his traineeship in the P&P Shipping Group. After an internship at a Lloyd’s Underwriter in London, he moved in 2009 to the Swiss based legal consultancy firm, MP Legal (now Lawgical), where he handled Professional Indemnity, Public Officials and Medical Malpractice matters, specializing both in loss adjustment and strategic advice on claims handling to underwriters.
He obtained the qualification as lawyer in 2010 and came back to Piccinini & Associati in 2010 when he became member of the Insurance Group advising international insurers and London underwriters on PI claims and litigation. Andrea is a senior associate and co-heads P&P Insurance Group.
Soon after obtaining his law degree at Genoa University discussing a thesis on Marine Pollution in 2010, Leopoldo immediately commenced his traineeship to become - in the same year - an accredited mediator and, few years after, a qualified lawyer.
In 2011 he attended and finalised a master degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution. He then practiced civil and insurance law at other Genoese law practice until October 2014 when he finally joined P&P as a fully qualified lawyer. Leopoldo is a tenacious litigator and currently handles insurance disputes on behalf of Italian insurers.
Andrea practices in Italy in commercial law, both contentious and non contentious, with focus on shipping, insurance, carriage of goods, and yacht sale and purchase. His interests also lie in construction and cross-border contractual disputes.
He graduated in law at the University of Pavia, and with a LLM in Maritime Law from Southampton University. Andrea qualified in Italy in 2007 and as solicitor (non practicing) of England & Wales in 2011. He currently cooperates with the Genoa and Lugano offices of Italian-Swiss law firm Piccinini & Partners. From October 2018 is a Senior Associate of P&P Shipping Group.
Ettore Violante graduated at Palermo University of Law in July 2014. He enrolled in the trainees’ registry early in December 2014 at Civil Law practice in Palermo. He obtained his LLM in International Maritime Law at Swansea University in 2016 and in November of the same year he moved to P&P. As a part of his traineeship program, Ettore has been seconded at Lawgical SagL in Maroggia to earn familiarity with Lloyd's Market and loss adjustment practice and spent a period at Ince & Co. in London to refine his shipping law studies.
He passed his qualification exams in October 2020 and enrolled as lawyer in February 2021.
Ettore now cooperates with both our Shipping Team on P&I matters and transport disputes, and our Insurance Team on third party and professional liability litigation.
After graduation at Genoa University of Law in 2007, with a thesis on Public Officials criminal liability, Paola did her legal traineeship at Piccinini & Partners to then move to Lawgical SagL in Lugano. At Lawgical she has been involved in a large claims audit project carried out on behalf some Lloyd’s Underwriters on MedMal and Public Officials claims. She spent periods on secondment at some Lloyd’s underwriters advising on PI, PO and medical malpractice. Back in Lugano, Paola worked as adjuster and assessor supervising bordereaux drafting and PI claims management. She qualified as lawyer in December 2011 (but due to her employment at Lawgical she did not enrol at the Italian Law Society). On January 2013 she has been made Lawgical Claims Operation Manager and Company Secretary. Paola is responsible to coordinate P&L that is the loss adjustment and audit service provided by Lawgical and P&P. Her wide experience in the Lloyd’s market is of great support to the Insurance Group litigators to both keep updated on the London market developments and to advice on reserving and claims handling.
Graduated from the University College of London (UCL) with a LLB (law degree) in 1992. After her degree she studied French and Italian for one year. In 1994 she got her MSC in Shipping and Finance.
Admitted as a lawyer in Cyprus since 1997, she set up her own individual practice until 2009, when she founded N. Savvides Zannetou LLC. In 2011, she entered as co-operation partner of Piccinini & Partners where she keeps contributing actively with her expertise in ship registration and corporate finance.
